Instructor Anthony Roberts is Certified as International Sanshou JudgeWe are proud to announce that Malee's School Instructor Anthony Roberts has become the third person in the United States certified by the International Wushu Federation to judge sanshou (full contact sparring).Anthony was one of four Americans sent by the U.S.A. Wushu-Kung Fu Federation (or USAWKF ) to attend the 2006 International Wushu Judges Examination Course in Shanghai, China, from November 20 to 25, 2006. This event was hosted by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF ) and the Chinese Wushu Association, and sponsored by the Shanghai Sports Asssociation. Eighty eight participants from twenty eight nations attended, fifty four in taolu (forms or routines) and thirty seven in sanshou. From the U.S., Ted Fu of Maryland, Shu Dong Li of San Francisco, and Qian Lizotte of Boston all tested for taolu certification; Anthony was the sole sanshou judge sent by the U.S. Shifu Malee accompanied Anthony on the trip. In 1987, at the 1st International Wushu Judges Course held in Hangzhou, Shifu studied with or from many of the people at the recent event in Shanghai, including Professor Zhu Ruiqi of the Beijing Sports University, who was the chief instructor of sanshou. All four of the U.S. participants passed the test with high marks, including Anthony, who received the sixth-highest score of the sanshou judges. Report on the 1st Instructors and Judges CoursePresident Khow directed the 1st National Wushu Instructors and Judges Courses. It was a resounding success, with seventeen people graduating. Professor Zhu Ruiqi of the Beijing Sports University and Professor Liu Tongwei of the Shanghai Sports Institute taught the courses.These courses, the first of their kind in the United States, taught students how to become more effective teachers of Chinese martial arts and the new International Wushu Federation (IWuF) rules for international competition. Graduates of the courses: Angela Atwater (CT), James Jianqiu Cao (CA), Barbara L. Chan (CT), Calvin Chin (MA), George Duong (CA), Qichen Guo (CA), Mohammadali Khansari Hosseini (FL), Bangjun Jiang (MD), Randy K. Li (KS), Paul Nardelli (MA), James Posniewski (NY), Anthony F. Robert Roberts (CT), Anguang Sun (CA), Yanhua Wang (NY), Susan A. White (CT), Teresa Wong (CO), and Qian Xue (MA).
