Dear Friends, From November 1st to 3rd, 2002, Malee's School of Tai Chi & Kung Fu presented the Second New England International Chinese Martial Arts Championships. The event was held in Willimantic, Connecticut, at Eastern Connecticut State University, which was also co-host and co-sponsor. We are proud to announce that the tournament, the second of its kind in New England (the first was in 1999), was a great success, with over 500 competitors and two thousand spectators for both days. Although several competitors' teams from other countries were unable to attend due to difficulties obtaining their visas, we still had competitors from Brazil, Canada, China, Columbia, Latvia, New Zealand, and Italy, making this a truly international event in celebration of Chinese martial arts and culture. Masters from all over the country and the world were present for the event, including "Iron Fist" Grand Master Pan Qing Fu (Canada), Grand Master Kei Cheong-Sau (Hong Kong), Grand Master Chen Zhenglei (China), Grand Master Zhang Zhijun (China), Grand Master Veera Vassantachart (Los Angeles), and more. The Masters Performances on Saturday night were one of the most exciting ever, with a wonderful mix of individual and group performances, tai chi, traditional kung fu, and contemporary wushu. Among the performers were Grand Master Pan Qing Fu, Ms. Dianne Naughton, and Ms. Sue Len Chang (Canada), Grand Master Zhang Zhijun (China), Grand Master Chen Zhenglei (China), Master Yung-Chi Chung and Sifu Wen Shu Hung (California), Master Randy K. Li (Kansas), Master Jianye Jiang and Master Yuzhi Lu (New York), Master Sam Ng (Illinois), Master Chun Man Sit (Missouri), Master Kam P. Lee (Florida), Master Calvin Chin and Calvin Chin's Martial Arts Academy (Massachussetts), Master Tat-Mau Wong and the Tat Wong Kung Fu Academy (California), Master Ai Ping Cheng and the Ai Ping Tai Chi and Wushu Center (Connecticut), Master C.P. Ong (Maryland), Master Hengxin (New York), Sifu Cunjie Guo (Florida), Sifu John Loupos (Massachussetts), Sifu Qiuhua Wu (Singapore), Mr. Zhidan Li, Mr. Jiangtao Li, Mr. Yanfeng Wang, and Mr. Yongguo Zhao (Florida), Ms. Paula Amidani, and more. A special thanks to everyone (organizing committee members, volunteers, judges, and everyone else) who made the event possible, and congratulations to all the competitors!
